Figure 1.1 – Cruise Control On/Off and Set/Resume Switch
Feature Description
Cruise Control enables the driver to maintain a desired road speed without using the throttle. The functionality varies based on the selected operational mode.
Two switches control this feature (refer to Figure 1.1):
- Cruise Control On/Off switch – Enables or disables Cruise Control.
- Set/Resume-Coast/Accelerate switch – Allows the driver to set and resume Cruise Control speed.
Operational Modes
Cruise Control has three operational modes, dependent on switch settings and vehicle conditions:
- Off – Cruise Control is disabled and cannot be activated. 2. Standby – Cruise Control On/Off switch is ON, but Cruise Control is inactive. Activation is only possible when:
- Vehicle speed is at least 30 mph.
- Engine speed is above idle.
- Brake and clutch pedals are not pressed.
- No vehicle speed sensor faults exist. 3. Active – Cruise Control is regulating engine fueling to maintain the set speed. The reference speed is determined by Cruise Control Maximum Speed, Driver Reward’s reward speed, and the Cruise Control Set Speed.
Cruise Control cannot exceed the engine’s maximum torque curve limits.
Adjustable Parameters
Figure 1.2 – Cruise Control/Switch Setup
- Cruise Control – Enables or disables the feature via the ECM Value column.
- Cruise Control Auto-Resume – Allows the driver to resume the previous set speed after using the clutch.
- Cruise Control Lower Droop – Sets the maximum vehicle speed for lower droop. A greater droop improves fuel economy, while a lesser droop provides better speed control. Recommended setting: 2 MPH.
- Cruise Control Save Set Speed – Determines if the previous cruise speed is retained after engine shutdown.
- Cruise Control Upper Droop – Sets the maximum speed for upper droop. Recommended setting: 0 MPH.
- Maximum Cruise Control Speed – Sets the upper cruise speed limit unless Driver Reward is active. Recommended setting: 62 MPH.
Cruise Control Switch Setup
This feature configures the Cruise Control Set/Resume switch functions.
Figure 1.3 – Cruise Switch Setup
- Cruise Control Switch Setup – Enables or disables the feature via the ECM Value column.
- Switch Setup – Defines switch throw functionality:
- Set/Accelerate – Up position
- Resume/Coast – Down position
Adaptive Cruise
Adaptive Cruise enhances Cruise Control by maintaining a safe following distance.
Figure 1.4 – Adaptive Cruise (Disable)
- Adaptive Cruise – Enables or disables the feature.
- Adaptive Cruise Recovery – Configures recovery mode for Adaptive Cruise failures:
- Enabled – Standard Cruise Control remains functional if Adaptive Cruise fails.
- Disabled – Standard Cruise Control is disabled if Adaptive Cruise fails.
Interaction with Other Features and Parameters
Figure 1.5 – Driver Reward (Disable)
- Driver Reward – If enabled, allows vehicle cruise speeds higher than the maximum Cruise Control speed.
- Engine Brakes – Can be applied when Cruise Control is active. If enabled, engine braking occurs when vehicle speed exceeds the Cruise Control reference speed.
Figure 1.6 – Engine Brake Control
- Gear Down Protection – Determines if Cruise Control deactivates during manual gear shifts.
Figure 1.7 – Gear Down Protection (Disable)
- Road Speed Governor Override – Determines if Cruise Control can exceed the road speed governor’s reference speed.
- Maximum Accelerator Vehicle Speed Limit – Allows the accelerator to temporarily increase vehicle speed above the set cruise speed but below the maximum vehicle speed.
Figure 1.8 – Vehicle Speed
- Vehicle Speed Sensor Type – If set to “None,” Cruise Control cannot be re-enabled until a valid sensor type is selected.
