1. Accessing PTO/Remote PTO Settings
To configure the Power Take-Off (PTO) operation:
- Open Features and Parameters in the Cummins INSITE software.
- Navigate to PTO/Remote PTO settings. (For additional details, refer to: Power Take-Off (PTO) Operation on Cummins Engines.)
Figure 1.2 – PTO/Remote PTO Adjustable Parameters
The following are the configurable parameters:
- Maximum Engine Speed = 2050 RPM
- Minimum Engine Speed = 750 RPM
- Resume Switch Engine Speed = 750 RPM
- Set Switch Engine Speed = 1500 RPM
- Switch Ramp Rate = 250 RPM/s
2. Monitoring PTO/Remote PTO Settings
Use the Data Monitor/Logger to observe the real-time operation of the PTO system. (For additional details, refer to: Data Monitor/Logger on Cummins INSITE Software.)
Figure 1.3 – Data Monitor/Logger (Custom)
Before activating PTO, start the engine and allow air pressure to build. The following parameters should be monitored:
- Cruise – Set/Resume Switch = None
- Cruise Control On Switch = Off
- PTO Additional Switch = Off
- PTO Validation = Inactive
- Throttle Status (Idle Validation) = Off Idle
3. Activating PTO Operation
- Depress the clutch.
- Set the PTO On/Off Switch to ON.
- Shift the transmission to Drive (D) or the lowest gear.
- Slowly release the clutch.
Figure 1.4 – PTO Additional Switch (On)
Once activated, the system parameters should update as follows:
- Cruise – Set/Resume Switch = None
- Cruise Control On Switch = On
- PTO Additional Switch = On (indicating PTO Engage Sense is active and the PTO Solenoid is engaged.)
- PTO Validation = Inactive
- Throttle Status (Idle Validation) = On Idle
4. Setting PTO Engine Speeds
Once the Cruise Control Switch is set to ON, engine speed can be adjusted using the Cruise Control Select Switch.
Figure 1.5 – Set Switch Engine Speed (1500 RPM)
- Move the Cruise Control Select Switch to the SET position.
- The engine will adjust to 1500 RPM (first preset PTO speed).
- System parameters will update as follows:
- Cruise – Set/Resume Switch = None (Momentary Set)
- PTO Validation = Active
Figure 1.6 – PTO Validation (Active) / Set Switch Engine Speed
To adjust the engine to the second preset PTO speed:
- Move the Cruise Control Select Switch to RESUME.
- The engine will adjust to 750 RPM.
Figure 1.7 – PTO Validation (Active) / Resume Switch Engine Speed
- A third preset PTO speed is available if Additional Switch Engine Speed is enabled.
- If Alternate Operation is enabled, only one preset speed is available.
Figure 1.8 – PTO/Engine Speed (1930 RPM)
To manually adjust PTO speed:
- Hold the Cruise Control Select Switch in the SET/RESUME position.
- The engine will ramp up at 250 RPM/s until reaching the maximum engine speed of 2050 RPM.
