P2109 Throttle Pedal Position Sensor Minimum Stop Performance D6CA

General Description

Using a potentiometer the resistance in accelerator pedal sensor(APS) changes as the accelerator pedal position is different. After the resistance is converted into voltage, the voltage is sent to ETCM. ETCM controls engine power and engine revolution with the voltage from APS. The pedal’s position is calculated from the voltage of potentiometer in the APS. APS is composed of pedal position sensor and two idle switches. Pedal position sensor detects the opening of accelerator pedal and relays voltage signal to ETCM. Two idle switches judge the pedal position sensor failure and let ETCM perform limp home mode. APS value is 0.3V without accelerator pedal depressed but on the other hand APS value is 3.6V with accelerator pedal fully depressed. Even though idle switch fails, if pedal position sensor is normal, engine is operated normally. In case of pedal position sensor failure, idle switch sends signal to ETCM, limp home mode is performed by ETCM to control engine. When both of them are defective, vehicle is driven at idle.

DTC Description (P2109)

If the output voltage of accelerator pedal sensor is below 0.2V for more than 1 second, ETCM judges this as power supply problem of accelerator pedal and DTC is set. The possible cause may be short to ground, open in harness, poor connection of connector. If both of idle switches are normal, engine is controlled in limp home mode and engine speed is fixed at 800 RPM regardless of accelerator pedal position.
